Working closely with Irish Rail, Rowe Hankins developed a bespoke speed sensor for multiple vehicle types, helping to simplify maintenance, reduce purchasing complexity and improve long-term reliability.
The North West based design and manufacturing company were approached to design and supply a bespoke speed sensor that can be utilised on a number of different vehicle types that Irish Rail operates in the Republic. Working together, the Engineers from both Irish Rail and Rowe Hankins developed a solution that can work across a range of fleets, helping to reduce issues in relation to Purchasing, Engineering Change and Obsolescence.
Alex Emmerson, Engineering Director at Rowe Hankins stated,
“This was a great opportunity. Being invited at the earliest stage to design, develop and test a sensor for Irish Rail allowed our two Engineering departments to work to build the concept right through to manufacturer and fitting. This will prove to be a great asset to Irish Rail going forward, helping to reduce costs and simplifying the specification and purchasing process”.
Rowe Hankins manufactured products include speed sensors, current monitoring products, intelligent wheel flange lubrication and earth leakage detection units. Also offering extensive in house design and engineering, prototype and test facilities to a high level of quality and product assurance.
In addition to manufacturing, there’s significant workshop facilities for the repair and overhaul of circuit breakers, contactors and other electro-mechanical devices to extend their service life. This capability is backed by test facilities including a high voltage and high current test equipment to certify product performance before shipping.
