SURGE PROTECTION
Surge Arrestor Module (SAM)
Surge protection, testing and monitoring for railway electrical systems
Rowe Hankins SAM² Surge Arrestor Modules provide protection and supporting test functions for railway and industrial electrical systems. The range includes surge protective devices for selected AC and DC circuits, alongside dedicated modules for loop testing, circuit isolation and alarm-loop indication.
With options for signalling, power distribution and other electrical applications, the SAM² range helps protect connected equipment against transient overvoltages while supporting testing and monitoring activities. Available ratings, functions and compatibility depend on the selected module.

TECHNOLOGY
How Surge Protection Works
Helping protect circuits from transient overvoltages
Surge protective devices are designed to limit transient overvoltages that can occur during electrical disturbances. The SAM² range includes variants for different AC and DC circuit types, allowing protection to be selected according to the electrical system and application. Selected modules also provide status indication and alarm outputs, helping maintenance teams identify when attention may be required.
Dedicated test and isolation modules extend the range beyond surge protection to support circuit testing and alarm-loop monitoring. The appropriate module should be selected using its individual technical specification.
