TECHNOLOGY

How Tacho Units and Target Wheels Work

Converting axle rotation into speed signals

A target wheel rotates with the railway axle, passing the sensing elements within the tacho unit. Hall-Effect technology detects the changing magnetic field associated with the toothed wheel and generates electrical output signals corresponding to rotational movement. Dual-channel, phase-shifted outputs can also support direction detection, allowing connected vehicle systems to monitor speed and direction.
